Getting Indexed: How to Add a URL to Search Engines

So why is it necessary to add URL to search engines? Because it will help you get indexed faster; otherwise your site cannot be found online by any one. There is no point having great content with affiliate links and Google AdSense if the Internet is not aware of its existence.

While over time if new content is regularly added, search engine “spiders” will eventually find your site. You can, however, manually add URL to search engines to help speed up the process.

It is important distinguish the difference between getting indexed and getting traffic. To add URL to search engines helps you to get indexed by alerting the “spiders” to crawl your site. You need to promote your website, increase the back links so to get ranked higher in searches in order to get traffic.

You only need to add URL to Google, Yahoo! and Bing which are the top three, and together account for some 95% of the market. Also, many others like Lycos and Alta Vista use Google and Yahoo to power their search, so there really is no need to submit to these sites. While there are paid services you can use, there is no need as you can add URL to search engines (like Google, Bing and Yahoo!) for free. You will be wasting your money and potentially risk your email address from being spammed with offers from these other directories.

Most search engines require a form to be filled to submit your website. Generally, only information about the site and URL for the front page is required. You then submit your page by pressing the “Add URL” link at the bottom. Furthermore, you can also submit your website’s site map (a page with links to all the web pages on your website) as this helps the spiders find all your content. Spiders follow links from that page to the rest of your website.

To successfully get your site indexed, it is important to remember the following:

Do not submit similar or mirror sites (sites that have different URLs but identical content). Repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. Multiple submissions may result in a site being deleted or excluded.
Only submit your main index page:The spider/robot will automatically find all the links within the pages and index your whole site.
No re-Directs: Do not submit any URL which redirects to another address.

URL Submission – The Key to Website Traffic

As I have said many times before, traffic is the key to making money online. Many people are confused about why their websites are not getting any traffic. There are many free ways to get loads of traffic to your website, but today I am going to talk about the simplest way. Submit your website URL to a number of different search engines.

Take a second to think about how often people do searches on websites such as Google. The amount of traffic that goes through those sites is astounding, and it can be going straight to your website. If you could get your website to the front page of specific Google searches then you will have a large amount of traffic coming to your site. Achieving that feat would involve a lot of search engine optimization. Submitting your website URL is the most important part of SEO and a lot of people do not even do it. If you don’t submit your URL to any search engines then it simply will not show up at all. Submitting your URL is simple.

All search engines have a link that will allow you to put your URL into their data base. You can find a whole bunch of these links if you follow the first link in my signature box. Obviously the most important search engine to submit your URL to is Google; however, make sure to submit it to other search engines as well. It is very competitive to get your website for most keywords on Google. If you submit your URL to other, less popular sites, you may end up having much more traffic then you would with Google.

Submitting your URL to search engines is required if you are trying to get large amount of traffic through Google, Yahoo etc. To do so you can search online for free URL submission software or you can click on the link given in my signature.

Yahoo!’s New Site Explorer – Submit and Track Your Website Today

Yahoo! recently expanded their search engine service and now offers users the ability to access information that Yahoo! has about a site’s online presence. You can see which sites and sub-pages are indexed by Yahoo! Search, track sites that link into a webpage, and view the most popular pages from any site.

The Site Explorer is Yahoo!’s latest strategy in an attempt to increase the quality of their search engine to compete with Google. Matt Mayernik, VP Technology of Hudson Horizons, has been using and testing Yahoo!’s Site Explorer over the past few weeks. His experience with the new service so far has been positive. Mr. Mayernik states, “Yahoo! Site Explorer is Yahoo!’s version of Google Sitemaps. The service allows webmasters the ability to gather more information about the status of their website in the Yahoo! search index. Yahoo! has developed an API that allows developers to download reports about their site, a very useful feature. I feel the new application is an enormous step forward for Yahoo! and will most likely provide a valuable resource for webmasters in the future.”

The new Yahoo! Site Explorer can be used to:

Find which sub-pages within a URL are indexed by Yahoo!
Find pages that link to that site or any page. (in-links)
Submit and track feeds for your sites.

If you are exploring a site you have authenticated, you can see additional information about the site URLs, such as:

Sub-domains from the site known to Yahoo!
Last crawled date of your site’s URLs.
Language detected for the site’s URLs.
Additional details on the status of your site feeds, such as when they were last submitted and processed.

Exploring a site is as easy as doing a web search but instead of entering a “query term” you will enter a site’s URL. A Site Explorer search will not return the same results that a web search would. Instead, Site Explorer uses the URL you submit to return particular information related to the structure of that URL in the Yahoo! Search database and on the Web.

If you’re interested in submitting a feed, you can submit them through their FREE Search Page or through their Site Explorer API. They support the following feed submission formats: RSS 0.9, RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, Atom 0.3 or a text file containing a list of URLs, each URL at the start of a new line. The filename of the URL list file must be urllist.txt. The filename for a compressed file must be: urllist.txt.gz.

You can track the feeds for any site that you have submitted to Yahoo! Search once you register the site with them. You can also see more detailed information including the status, last processed date, and last submitted date for the feed, once you authenticate a site.

Yahoo!’s Site Explorer is their latest attempt to improve Yahoo! Search to become a stronger competitor in the race for the most widely used search engine on the Internet. Currently Google is estimated to receive 40% of all searches performed online, with Yahoo! at a close second with 30%, followed by MSN with 16%. Will the new Site Explorer help Yahoo! to improve their search engine and take more of a hold in the search engine market? In my opinion, this is a positive start.

I believe Yahoo! is on the right track and believe it or not, I think Yahoo! has a chance to surpass Google within the next three years. Is this possible? Let’s place our bets!

Submit URL to Dogpile Experiment

I’m doing research for an upcoming tutorial and decide to check out how many people each day are searching for “submit web2.0?. So I go over to Wordtracker and decide to check out the daily search volume for the search term “Submit”.

I was surprised to see that a lot of people are interested in submitting their site to Dogpile. (2000 a day) My first thought was “that’s strange, 2000 people a day – maybe someone is selling an ebook about how valuable links from Dogpile are.

The funny thing is that if you are already listed on Google, Yahoo! or MSN, you will be automatically listed on Dogpile. Dogpile is a meta-search engine and provides results from Google, Yahoo!, MSN and ASK all in one place. Their Alexa ranking today is 2,935 (they’re the 2,935th busiest site on the web).

It didn’t take me long to see that you can’t submit your site to Dogpile, they get their listings from other sources…

My first thought was: “Wow, I’ve hit keyword gold – how long will it take me to rank for some of these search terms and start getting a boat-load of highly targeted visitors to my site?” (These search terms are highly targeted to my site which shares resouces on web publicity. They wouldn’t be relevant on a site about kite-surfing for example).

So, how long did it take? I received my first visitor from Google 20 hours after I posted about it on my blog. I was #6 for the keyword phrase “Dogpile submit site”. The really amazing part is that the blog was only 12 days old.

Right now you may be thinking “How did he do that?”. The concise answer is that I ‘engaged an online publicity campaign’.

What’s an “Online Publicity Campaign?”

This is part of the “New Web” environment. A couple years ago Search Engine Optimization was everything, today there are dozens of websites that can be “publicized” and bring you visitors. Some of these may be websites you interact with everyday, many of them you will have never heard of. The “New Web” is here, what’s your strategy?

Search engine optimization can be just a small part of your online marketing campaign.

How Should I Submit My URL to the Search Engines?

When you set up a new website or blog you may need to submit the URL to the search engines. Google, Yahoo and most of the major search engines supply you with a page where you can suggest the URL of your website. However this won’t get your site indexed more quickly as they don’t automatically include every site in fact you’ll rarely get all your pages indexed by all the search engines.

Before I explain some of the best ways to get your websites URL indexed, I’d first like to give my opinion on the mass directory submission services that exist that promise to submit your websites to thousands of directories. Please don’t waste your money, if you have too much money please send some to me and I’ll invest it much more wisely in stocking up my wine cellar There are only a handful of search engines that are worth being listed in the rest are a complete waste of time and you’ll just end up getting your email addresses spammed with infinite offers from these other directories, I on the other hand will never bother you while enjoying the proceeds of my new wine.

Many of the experts SEO professionals insist that you should never submit your URL to any of the major search engines and you should get it indexed in other ways. Although I tend to agree with them using their submission page certainly won’t do you any harm, if you search for submit URL google/yahoo/msn etc you’ll find all their pages. However you can easily submit and never actually make it into the search engines – it is much more preferable for them to find you.

All the major search engines are constantly looking for new content on the web, they revisit many sites thousands of times a day, checking content, following links, looking for new sites. But you should always remember that they exist to supply content and information to the people using their search facilities, Google is not going to be interested in indexing your site which is under construction, so make sure you have some content in your site before you start promoting it.

So how do we get our website indexed quickly by the search engines, well we must try and establish a presence for our URL so that the search engine spiders will come visiting. For this we need links pointing in at our site, if you are creating a blog getting indexed is less of a problem most of the major blogging platforms will automatically ‘ping’ the search engines to inform them of new content. If you keep updating and using your blog it should get and stay indexed without any effort. This is not the case for websites however and it is not unusual to wait several months for indexing in many search engines.

To encourage the search engine spiders to visit we need to set up some little routes for the spiders to follow. The quickest and simplest way of doing this is by using social bookmarking sites. These online favourites management sites are much loved by the search engines and users alike so if you sign up with a big one like reddit, stumble or technorati then add a couple of your URLs pretty soon your site will get spidered. As long as you have some useful content on your website that should be it you’ll be in the indexes.

To check if you’re listed just submit your URL to the search engines in the search box and see if it comes up with any results. If it doesn’t list your site in the search results you’re not listed on that search engine.

However that’s not the end of it remember that you’ll need to get as many pages as possible listed in these indices for maximum traffic just having your home page listed is not enough. Make sure you create a site map and place it on your website, remember to update it when you add new content. Then sign up for Google’s Webmaster tools where you can manually submit your sitemap to inform of new pages.

I use social bookmarking sites extensively to promote both my web sites and my customers, not only are they excellent for getting pages indexed fast, the links from all these sites promote your own web site and bring in direct traffic. However it can get really time consuming to logon to these sites and add individual URLs.

How to Submit a URL to a Search Engine to Increase Visitor Numbers

Knowing how to submit a URL to a search engine could help in increasing the number of visitors to your Web site through organic search. Let’s say you are planning to create the next big thing in Internet content, you cannot do it without having your uniform resource locator (URL) or Web address linked to the biggest search engines in the online community.

Submitting your URL to various search engines like Yahoo!, Google and MSN only takes a few click of the mouse and you’re all set. However, this does not guarantee that your site will become instantly popular and will be inundated with visitors. There is a lot more to having an online presence than submitting your address to major search engines.

How to increase visitor traffic

The first thing that a Web master needs to consider in increasing online traffic is the content of the site. Not only should it be relevant, unique and informative; it should also have the proper keyword density or should be search engine optimized.

So now we come to search engine optimization (SEO). This means that the site is search engine friendly or has the right tags, keywords and content that will make it a highly-ranked resource in major search engines. Aside from SEO, another step that a Web site operator can take to improve his search engine ranking is the development of links from well-known and established Web sites. Link development can be achieved through fee-based directory submissions and direct links with related sites.

Submission to major search engines

Submitting your URL to search engines can be for free or on a fee-based basis. The first step is getting your site registered to these search engines. If your site does not have a lot of related or similar tags and content, then free registration is just fine. In cases like this, you just need to optimize your site so that it will have a higher ranking than similar or related URLs.

However, if your site or its keywords are common or have a lot of related sites, then pay-per-click search is an option that you can explore to increase site traffic. This means that for every visitor who will click on your site, you will be charged a certain fee. The main advantage is that you’ll be on the top list of sites with similar content. Most sites that are included in paid listings are those that are highly relevant and have chances of having entities willing to advertise at their sites.

Before you submit URL to a search engine, familiarize yourself with the factors that can help your Web address become popular among online visitors. Content, link and keywords are just some of the few considerations that you need to examine before you can establish a solid online presence.

Submit a URL to Any of the Search Engines

If you own a business that you run online you will know that advertising as much as you can is the only way you will get your business out there. You have a lot of business that you need to compete with for the top spots on search engines like Google and Yahoo, which is why you want to do all you can to get those top spots, one thing you can do is submit your url to search engines.

Now, for those of you who do not know a URL is that little address at the top of your web browser, it usually takes this type of form: http://www.Yoursite.Com or http://www.Yoursite.Net or http://www.Yoursite.Org. There are many different variation to the last three letters of a web site address, like .com for international sites.

You also get net, that has become international, .Org that is getting more and more popular and then you get country specific ones like .Ca for Canada, .Co.Uk for anywhere in the UK and co.Za for South Africa.

Whatever you web address looks like does not matter at all, as long as it is a valid address and that your site is up and running. You do not want to submit your url to a search engine if your site is not working, this will defeat the whole point.

Before you submit your url to any of the search engine make sure that you have done proper SEO for your site. This is one of the most important parts of running a site.

You see, the whole point of submitting your url is that you can get the search bot to your site to read your content for search engine purposes, and if you have a lot of junk content your site will come up nowhere on the search engine results.

How to Select a Directory to Submit Your Website?

With the era of Internet the prospect of the people looking towards things have changed over the years. Lots of changes took over the years and various methods were used to make a website prominently noticed by others over the Internet. Since the Internet is not the smallest place where you type a query and you pray that your website gets pop up at the first rank on Google page. Later Directories were introduced to make the website get noticed by Search Engines and Individuals.

There are thousands of website directories present in the internet world. It becomes very important when you as a link builder have to choose the right directory for your SEO campaign. You do not want to get spam links from link directories nor do you want to submit URL in low authority websites.

Hence choosing an online directory for your website should follow a certain quality regimen. Most of the Organization only emphasis on the Directory Rank and go on to submit the links due to high PR, but that itself does not help to build Quality Links. Following are a few points which you should definitely look into while selecting a directory

Domain Name: Make sure the domain name is in accordance with your website.

For example if your client sells electronic gadgets and his website is getting a link from a Directory named “candy-floss” will just not go well!

IP: Always submit links to directories with unique IP. By unique IP, I want to stress on the point that no two directories in which you submit should have the same IP address.

Poker Games/ Video Parlor: Before submitting, please make sure that the directory does not have any links to casino/gambling or porn websites. This does not go well with the search engine spider!

Domain History: Do a little research on what the domain was associated with before being a web directory. One can check the domain history on websites like way-back-machine.

Cache: Check how often Google spider visits the home page, top category pages and the inner pages of the website. Do not submit your website in a directory that has a cache date that is too old.

As a link builder, you should always stay away from bulk submissions as that will do more harm than good to your website rankings and traffic eventually in the long run.

I hope this article helps you to find the right website directory for link submission in the future and will also help you to keep the key points in your mind when you do link submissions in coming time.

The SEO Approach – Know Search Engines, Don’t Submit to Them!

MSN submit site page states: “Generally our web crawler, MSNBot, can find most pages on the Internet. However if your site does not appear on Live Search, you can send us the address… ”
Google on the submit site page also states: “We add and update new sites to our index each time we crawl the web…We do not add all submitted URLs to our index.”

I know that the two giant search engines are not telling you not to submit your website to be indexed by their crawlers, but they are definitely telling you that it is going to take much more than submitting your website to be in the search results. Furthermore, investigating the two statements you can understand that submitting your web site to their crawlers might not make any difference!

I am not trying to stop you from submitting your website to MSN and Google, if you have it in your system and just want to do it, just do it! I still don’t think that submitting to search engines hurts your website, but I definitely believe it will not benefit your website at all. It also takes a couple of minutes so why not just do it and get it over with? I’ll tell you! The purpose of your website to be in any search engine’s database is to be in the search results when your content keywords are searched for. Logically, if submitting to search engines does not lead you to the purpose in the first place, then it is with no doubt the wrong path! Not to mention that it would be a waste of time and maybe money!

MSN and Google are not the only two search engines out there! In fact, if you are a website owner or in the process of getting a website, you might already have received a solicitation to submit your website to thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of search engines to increase traffic to your site. WORTHLESS!

Respected crawlers such as MSN, Google and Yahoo (the engines that send over 90% of website traffic) are now smart enough to find your website, even before you want them to crawl it! I have seen domain names appearing on Google results after starting to work on test pages of under-development web sites that are not decided to be in search engines yet (Note that this can easily and must be avoided!) .

Search engines are attracted to website content, they take this content and apply every technology available, every useful idea, and now even the behavior of your visitors towards your content to compare and rank your website. (Website Content has been mentioned more than two times in this article – because the purpose of this article is not to speak about content, you should note the term for further excessive research if you intend to be in search engine results!).

To succeed in your search engine optimization project you must do some work researching how search engines work, this procedure might at the end save you lots of time of working and then re-working. Search engines are software after all! This software takes the content on your website and analyzes it. Analysis is done differently on different search engines, and hence you see different results for the same keyword on different search engines. The keyword typed into the search box is the key that starts the whole process. After that the software behind the search engine tries to guess which website has the most appropriate result for the search term (the keyword/s). This guess does not come from vacuum, but from hints that your website offers to the search engines. These hints could be the website text content, image alts, title tags, description tags, keyword tags and more. As technology develops search engines are also becoming smarter.

In the near future search engines will be much smarter. They will be able to read text in images and videos, and I have no doubt that in the near future they will have the ability to read sound and translate it into searchable text.

The point here is to always keep track of how search engines work and how they develop, advance and evolve. Familiarity with this knowledge will help you optimize your website so you can see your website in search results.

Making Most of the Submit URL Directory

The submit URL directories are very important in case you want to increase the traffic on your website. The increased traffic on the website would simply be translated into an increased sales figure, which would mean more money. The submit URL directory is not the only way of increasing the traffic on your site but it could be used as one of the powerful tools to do so. There are many directories available. Some would be free of charge and some would charge you for submission of you website’s URL. The below mentioned points would help you make a prudent choice while looking at the various directory options.

You should know about the directory options which are well known and the most popular one. Even if you have to pay more to these submit URL directories as compared to the others, you should do that as this is worth an investment. This would not only increase the traffic on your site but would make you look good on the search engine result page as well.

The submit URL directory would need certain information over and above the URL of the site. Be very sure that the information that you provide as title, keywords and like should be accurate for getting the most of the submit directory benefits.

The URL submission directories would have their set of rules. If you are not abiding by the rules then you are not only wasting your money but your time as well.

Using the keywords while constructing the site and while providing information to a submit URL directory is of vital importance. Make sure the same is done in a way that it would reflect what your site is all about rather than just being a keyword optimization effort.

Have the website ready before you go for the URL submission directory. The best way to have a simple and workable website is to keep it simple with the least possibly pop ups and links as these would be noting but senseless distractions.
